NEW YORK _ Fashion often seems _ if not out and out divorced from reality _ at least distracted from it.

That certainly seems the case with the colorful and glitzy spring/summer outfits being trotted out at the biannual designer runway shows.

While much of the country is still reeling from the impact of Hurricane Katrina, the catwalk extravaganzas and flurry of satellite parties rage on. It is a cruel fact, but the audience for such style edicts from the nation's designers were not affected by the storm.
