Three teams submitted bids in early August for the mission operations system for the U.S. government's forthcoming Transformational Satellite Communications System (TSat). Ultimately the winning bidder will have the task of developing a system that essentially a network of networks to ensure various Department of Defense (DoD) networks are interoperable and can freely exchange information to anyone from the top brass at the Pentagon all the way down to the war fighter in a combat zone.
The TSat Mission Operations System (TMOS), will help make TSat a forward extension of the military's global information grid (GIG). The GIG is intended to be the central construct that all other military networks connect to in an Internet-like environment to send and receive information.
