GRAND FORKS, N.D. _ Brent Jackson's first bow hunt of the season produced a story that goes far beyond the 5x5 buck he bagged from a tree stand more than 20 feet above the ground.
It's a hunting excursion the Grand Forks pharmacist won't forget for a long time. And he's got the casts on both ankles to prove it.
A bow hunter for 17 years, Jackson, 32, climbed into his portable deer stand about 6 p.m. Sept. 2, filled with anticipation for his first hunt of the season. He'd just hung up his bow, backpack and fanny pack, when the cable that holds up the platform gave way.
It happened so fast, Jackson says, that he didn't even have a chance to fasten the safety harness he normally wears in the stand. He fell 20 feet...
