As we have all read before, the congestion at West Coast ports is creating a need for the development of alternative inland ports. Inland ports were developed to move more freight out of the ocean port areas via rail to facilitate a faster and more environmentally friendly mode of merchandise movement out of the major metropolitan areas. The increase in the use of this transportation model has led to the development of large rail ramps inland from the local ports and at major gateways within the continental United States.
