FROM 1900 AND THROUGH THE 2004 SEASON, A HITTING STREAK OF 20 OR MORE GAMES HAS BEEN recorded 478 times in the major leagues by more than 350 different players. In the 1800s, not all 20-game skeins were recorded, but our charts have 25 documented 20-plus-game hitting streaks prior to the 20th century. Not included in our stats is the 52-game hitting streak by Denny Lyons of the Philadelphia A's in 1887. Lyons' streak included two games in which he managed only walks, which were counted as hits in the 1887 season.
