The Yamaha YFZ450 made its motocross national debut at High Point during the 2003 season. There, Kory Ellis piloted the brand-new machine to third in the Pro Production class. After that point, ATV racing changed forever.
The 2004 season saw a sea of blue on motocross tracks across the country as racers ditched their dated Honda 250Rs and hybrid race bikes for the new four-stroke from Yamaha.

This season, there are a few other machines out on the track, but many racers have stuck with the Yamaha, including Ellis. He's currently in the top 10 and is looking forward to finishing the season strong this year.
At Red Bud, we had a chance to ride Ellis' Alba/Yamaha YFZ450, which was set up as he would ride it that weekend with one exception--it didn't have a twist throttle. Since we wanted to get the full experience, we asked to have a thumb throttle installed.
Inside The Beast
We talked to Alba owner Cory Hove to get the inside information on the national effort behind Ellis' bid for a championship. Ellis started riding for Alba about three years ago after a Cannondale sales rep mentioned Ellis' name to Hove.
"We were looking for a rider to race GNC, and Kory's name was offered as a candidate," says Hove "[Ellis] had been doing a little riding for Cannondale, and was looking for a ride."
Since Alba was based near San Diego, it was a perfect fit because Ellis is one of the few GNC riders based on the West Coast. But the perfect fit doesn't stop there. Alba is known for its ATV support because Hove...
