Homework is an unavoidable childhood chore. Although I can t promise to make it your child s favorite activity, I can help you create a homework space that's designed to motivate and calm your child.

CHOOSE THE LOCATION CAREFULLY. Placing a homework center in the kitchen can be too distracting for some children. The same is true of the family room--with its television and heavy traffic flow. One of my favorite places is the empty space at the end of a hallway.

INVOLVE YOUR CHILD. Each of us responds to color differently, so it's important to choose colors that will positively enhance your child's ability to concentrate. Some children need the motivation and …
