Before the merger with the AIBF, the Securities Institute of Australia (SIA) developed a new product called PD Direct to help meet the education needs and ongoing compliance challenges of licensees and advisers as a result of Financial Services Reform (FSR).
PD Direct uses the convenience of online technology to deliver a series of subjects specific to the new training requirements of licensees and advisers. It allows them to consolidate their professional development and training into one easily accessible location and, thereby, achieve the new compliance standards.
Tipping the balance
ASIC Policy Statement 146 requires all licensees and their advisers to plan, implement and record their training activities in specific knowledge and skill areas. The then SIA developed PD Direct after recognising the logistical challenges faced by licensees and practitioners in meeting this requirement.
Working full-time, maintaining regular professional development and engaging in life outside of work require a delicate balancing act. Additional work demands can potentially unbalance careers, create compliance issues and disrupt business.
