She's a Lady
Ladylike makeup is one of those things that can make women cringe -- caked foundation, harsh red lips, and graphic black eyeliner, yuck. But when Marc Jacobs told me that he wanted the models at his fall show to look like young women -- as opposed to girls -- we decided that a softer version of ladylike makeup would be ideal. I wanted a polished look, using makeup that was as light and easy as the models' flowing hair. I can tell if the makeup is a hit when all the models leave the show with their makeup still on, and this time they all did.
Flirty Eyes
I brushed gunmetal gray cream liner very close to the base of the lashes all around the eyes. It was just enough to give the eyes some definition without being too retro. Marc loves when the girls have really thick, rich lashes, but we didn't want to use false ones. Instead, I layered a few coats of the blackest black mascara on both the top and bottom to make the lashes really glossy and lush.
Polished Skin
Skin was the focus of the entire look. I wanted it to be finished (like a lady's) but not dry and matte (like an old one's). First, I cleaned up any blemishes and undereye circles on the models' faces with concealer or foundation. Then I dusted plum ...
