AS TREVOR HOFFMAN HAS WATCHED PADRES teammate Jake Peavy evolve into a staff ace at age 23, memories of Kevin Brown have flooded forth.
"There's a let of Browny to Jake," Hoffman said. "He's a very aggressive pitcher from pitch one to the last pitch he makes."
One season after he helped the Florida Marlins win the World Series, Brown brought his searing competitiveness to the Padres in 1998 and promptly directed them to the Series.
"The San Diego Padres should be excited to be getting the same type of dominance we got from Browny from a 23-year-old kid," Hoffman said. "The Padres made a pretty good move signing Jake for four years."
