Aug. 31--Gasoline wholesalers jacked up the price they charge South Florida service stations as much as 68 cents a gallon Tuesday as the scope of Hurricane Katrina's impact on the petroleum industry began to reverberate.
At least four of 17 suppliers in Florida told local stations to expect less-frequent deliveries of fuel.
Early this morning, long lines -- as many as 23 cars deep -- were forming at several South Florida gas stations. But others had no lines, and state officials and industry representatives insisted there is enough gas to go around.
