Aug. 30--Nick Quimby, a first year student at Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield, didn't flinch as he gathered the textbooks he needed from the college bookstore.
A business management major, the 18-year-old Norridgewock resident knew that he would have to spend about $1,500 over two years to pay for his textbook requirements.
"I've been saving money for quite awhile," Quimby said. "I just figured I'd have to get them."
Other students exhibit far more sticker price shock than Quimby -- and for good reason.
A recent U.S. Government Accountability Office study revealed that over the last two decades, the cost of textbooks has risen at twice the rate of inflation.
