New York, Aug 31 (PTI) Hundreds of people were feared

killed as powerful hurricane Katrina ravaged the US Gulf Coast

leaving behind catastrophic destruction and rescuers battled

time and tide to rescue the living Wednesday.

"The devastation is greater than our worst fears,"

Louisiana State Governor Kathleen Blanco said, adding "it is

just totally overwhelming".

The death toll from the Hurricane reached at least 110

in Mississippi alone while Louisiana put aside the counting of

the dead to concentrate on rescue efforts, many of them...
