Aug. 31--Homebuilders are bracing for higher construction materials prices in North Texas.

The cost of everything from plywood and roofing to wallboard and windows is expected to rise as repairs begin after more than $25 billion in hurricane damage in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

"When I dealt with my lumber people this morning, they said they got a fax from their biggest supplier and they can't quote any lumber prices," said Dallas custom homebuilder Bill Long. "They just bought lumber yesterday, and now they can't buy it today -- especially sheeting."
