MIAMI _ It didn't occur to him until much later. Sometime between exiting Tuesday's contest for a pinch runner in the eighth and his postgame workout, Carlos Delgado realized he missed his pitch.
"First pitch, he threw me a fastball right there," the left-handed hitting Delgado said of his eighth-inning matchup against Cardinals lefty Ray King. "I swung through it."
Delgado's frustration _ like that of his team after squandering a four-run lead _ was fleeting.
Three pitches later Delgado shot King's 0-2 offering into the right-center field gap for a two-run triple. That was the pivotal hit in a three-run inning that delivered a 7-6 Marlins victory.
