Aug. 30--It's time for Dr. Avi Adulami's report card.
Just over six months ago, the Business Monday Makeover Team examined the business practices of the veterinarian who makes house calls. Their frank assessment was that his basic concept was fine but could stand tweaking here and there to help him eventually reach his goal of 10 mobile clinics.
The group of volunteers that included a banker, accountant, marketing expert, success coach and Web designer said Adulami needed to do some savvy marketing, manage his time better, protect his trademark and write a business plan -- among other bits of advice.
He listened. And he's made progress.
"All your experts kind of opened my eyes," Adulami said. "I'm looking at everything from a business perspective."
For starters, graphic designer Barry Zaid, of Miami Beach, created a spiffy new website for Adulami (www.smilingpets.net). He also suggested the vet replicate the art and bold messages on his van, a 24-foot Winnebago equipped for everything from routine animal exams to tumor removal.
