Aug. 28--Home prices make me nervous, but not for the reasons you might expect.
I'm not worried about where the market's headed. I'm concerned much more about how you view your home equity, how much you're counting on it.
Certainly, plenty of people around here are living in homes that are worth twice what they were worth just a few years ago.
Even the newest South Florida homeowners should be feeling well-off, because the average single-family home price today is up 28 percent from a year ago in both Broward and Miami-Dade. That's according to the Florida Association of Realtors' monthly index of prices.
My concern is that when any single one of your assets grows so large as to overwhelm the rest, there's a risk.
A risk that the Big Asset might reverse course....
