Aug. 27--Many homeowners in Miami-Dade and Broward counties could be in for a painful surprise: Unless they bought flood insurance for their homes, they might not be covered for the damage from Katrina, the most extensive hit to South Florida since Hurricane Andrew swept through 13 years ago.
Unlike Hurricane Andrew's punch -- fierce winds that toppled pretty much anything in its path -- Katrina's wallop was water, dropping more than 14 inches of rain in some areas of Miami-Dade County.
