Soaring home values, the bloated budget deficit and trade protectionism pose threats to future U.S. economic growth, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan cautioned.
While his remarks largely mirrored previously voiced concerns, Greenspan's renewed warnings appeared to dampen investor enthusiasm Friday as all major indexes closed lower.
Speaking at the Fed's annual symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyo., the Fed chief cautioned that investor appetites for low returns on high risk assets could "readily disappear" if cracks appear in the economy.
