Aug. 27--OCALA, Fla. -- The president of the organization representing Florida's gasoline retailers blasted investment speculators and oil companies Friday, blaming them for high gas prices.

"Crude oil prices are being driven by fear and speculation," said Jim Smith of the Florida Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association. "The price (of gasoline) is a minimum of a dollar a gallon too high."
