Aug. 26--U.S. small businesses received a record $69.23 billion in federal contracts last year, but the government fell short of meeting its contracting targets for veterans and women, the Small Business Administration reported Thursday.
Of the $299.9 billion in federal prime contracts awarded in fiscal year 2004 (October to September), about 23 percent went to small businesses -- in line with federal targets.
But contracts to small businesses owned by veterans disabled during their service represented just 0.38...
