This is what 57 looks like? I think the first time I meet Patricia Allen, M.D., in her upper east side office. A whippet-thin woman with gleaming copper hair, a seamless, glowing face, and the bounce of a girl one quarter of her age, the Manhattan gynecologist has plainly remarkable beauty and vitality. Unabashedly, unapologetically, one might even say militantly menopausal, Allen (who has generously turned her desk over to me and my laptop) sits in one of the chairs usually occupied by her patients, a veritable Who's Who of New York women of a certain age.
