ESTABLISHING ROOTS My look is architectural and strict, but it must have a twist-I like looking a little on the edge. I love Yohji Yamamoto and Comme des Garcons because their collections have elements that throw your eye. Every day, I wear red lipstick and round sunglasses by Morgenthal Frederics. Even before wedges made a comeback, I was wearing them: Miu Miu and Prada are favorites. I discovered early on what clothes suit me, and I stick to them.

LEG ROOM I've been collecting Yohji pieces since 1982, when he started showing his own collections. I remember seeing Andie MacDowell in a pair of wide-leg pants in Vogue. The pants wrapped around the waist and fastened with a single button in the front, and originally were made of a nearly transparent cotton. Now I have the same pants made for me in other fabrics at Charvet in Paris-20 years later they still look terrific.
