FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ A lot has been written about how the New England Patriots have been able to win three Super Bowls in the past four years in the face of free agency, the salary cap, the disappearance of loyalty in the NFL and the constant realignment of the stars.
But one reason that is constantly overlooked or underplayed is Bill Belichick's unwavering strength in cutting away players whose usefulness has diminished or whose cost-benefit factor no longer works in his team's favor.
