Better Hair
take a powder
As if the limpness of unwashed hair isn't bad enough, now there's something else to be paranoid about: the smell. Stila is tackling this problem, which we must admit we hadn't considered before, with its Hair Refreshers -- powders that absorb oil from hair but also perfume it with floral scents. "Oily hair smells more because it retains bad odors from things like cigarettes and food," says hairstylist River Lloyd of the Peter Coppola Salon in New York City. "A quarter-size amount of powder massaged into the roots, crown, and nape of the neck can add volume to dirty hair and mask the smell." Just be sure to shampoo soon: As with an Altoid for bad breath, the effect is only temporary. Bottom Line: After we rubbed the white powder into our brunette hair, it vanished, leaving only a fresh scent in its wake. --
