While America's greatest men's hope, Andy Roddick, was Wednesday being dealt a fearsome opening week at the U.S. Open, defending champion Roger Federer was happily looking at an unknown Czech and a couple of bunters in the opening three rounds.
Roddick, who splits residences between Boca Raton, Fla., and Austin, Texas, was saddled with big-hitting Gilles Muller of Luxembourg in the first round.
