Aug. 24--Mike Ullman is leading J.C. Penney Co. out of the final chapter of its five-year turnaround and into a new era.
In January, he's calling all 1,000 store managers to Dallas for a rare gathering. That's when he'll put an often painful restructuring and cultural shift to bed and introduce the five-year path he was hired to design.
A turnaround that started as Penney's stock had fallen from $78 in 1998 to $8.63 in late 2000 will be "celebrated and booked," he said last week during a meeting with Dallas Morning News editors and reporters....
