Researchers Clone Embryos in South Korea and Britain

Scientists in South Korea announced that they created 11 human embryos through cloning, and then killed the tiny humans to harvest their stem cells for research.

South Korean scientist Woo Suk Hwang reported in the May 19 Science magazine that his laboratory created stem cell lines that match the DNA of patients who donated skin cells. The nucleus of a skin cell was injected into a donor egg that had its genetic material removed, according to the New York Times. The fused egg and nucleus were then stimulated to become a developing embryo.
