1 Russell, Kan., independent Jason Oil Co. staked a wildcat about 10 miles west-northwest of Stockton in northern Kansas in northwestern Rooks County. The #1-6 Carpenter, in Section 6-7s-19w, will evaluate the Lansing-Kansas City and the Cambrian Reagan to a depth of 3,625 ft., according to IHS Energy. The prospect is a half-mile off the western flank of Locust Grove Field, which is currently inactive. Before it was abandoned in 1996 the field produced 947,000 bbl. of oil through perforations between 3,150 and 3,450 ft. in the Toronto, Lansing-Kansas City and Arbuckle.
2 Red Oak Energy Inc., Wichita, Kan., staked a wildcat on the Kansas section of the Las Animas Arch to look at Morrow Sand and Mississippian pay potential in Wallace County, about eight miles south-southwest of Sharon Springs. The company's #1-6 Popp/Smith. in Section 6-15s 40w, is projected to 5,200 ft. about 4.5 miles east-northeast of the closest production in Okeson Field. The discovery well in that field tested with an initial potential of seven bbl. of oil a day from Lower Morrow from 4,977 to 4,986 ft., produced 146 bbl. of oil during one mouth and was shut in. It reentered the well a year later, perforated the Upper Morrow from 4,953-74 ft. and found natural gas. From 2002 to January this year, the well produced 157 million cu. ft. of gas and 8,600 bbl. of condensate. A follow-up well in the same field tested at 2 million cu. ft. of gas a day, also from Upper Morrow.
