Aug. 21--Uptown golfers who need to practice their swing will soon be driving farther. Their McKinney Avenue driving range is closing to make way for shops and homes.

The Hank Haney Golf Center at McKinney and Blackburn Street will shut its doors before the end of the year.

On two sides of the golf center, construction is under way on midrise retail and commercial buildings.
