Halliburton Energy Services' (HES) cementing services provided zonal isolation to prevent fluid movement between formations, ensure a bond to provide support for the casing and provide wellbore reliability.
"WellLife[R] cement modeling enhances the design of fit-for-purpose slurries used in the deepwater area," said Kerry Steele, technical advisor in the cementing group. "WellLife modeling was relatively new at the beginning of the Devils Tower project, and it gave us a basic idea of how the cement properties will react over the life of the well. Since Devils Tower, it's been used more often with great success."
HES' cementing unit was on the Marianas and the Max Smith drilling rigs chosen for this project.
"Seven of the eight Devils Tower wells have been completed, and Dominion has not had to perform any remedial cementing or block squeezes of any of the productive zones to date--definitely a cost-saving measure," Steele said.
