How to make over Your Makeup Bag

Everyone knows to rearrange their closets every fall and spring, but not many women realize that their makeup bag needs to be reconsidered, too. I like to think of the changing seasons as a signal to add new products -- and throw out the old and crumbling. * Be ruthless. Toss any makeup that shows signs of turning. Mascara lasts three months, max -- any longer, and a tube becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. It will also have a distinct, kind of gasoline-like smell. Foundation is ready for the trash once the oils have separated. Eye pencils have more longevity, but when they get a white film that you can't sharpen off, they're dead. And cracked, crumbly eye shadows -- even if you love the colors -- must go. They'll just end up ruining everything else in the bag. * Gain some weight. With cooler weather comes drier skin. Be sure to switch to a heavier moisturizer so the makeup sits well on the skin. And everyone ditches the foundation in summer because it just melts off, but it really does perfect the skin better than tinted moisturizer. Choose one that matches your skin tone exactly. * Cool off. You can use bronzer all year round if you like, but I think nothing looks better than rosy blush. Use a creamy one for a glowing effect. * Focus on eyes. Now that the weather is less humid, you can apply creamy shadow knowing it won't sweat off.
