Another book on Dante, but this time one that is different. Recasting a number of previously published pieces, one of Italy's leading Dantisti, Emilio Pasquini, has written a coherent volume which eschews academic jargon and footnotes, and limits references to a selective but up-to-date bibliography at the end of each of the nine chapters of the work. His main thesis is that the Divine Comedy is 'un supremo work in progress costruito per successive approssimazioni fino all'approdo onnicomprensivo del Paradiso' (p. viii).He applies Auerbach's notion of 'figura' and fulfilment to Dante's entire oeuvre (hence the title), seeing the early works as essential forerunners to the making ('fabbrica') of the Comedy.
