Better Hair
thick quick
Pomades, sprays, and hot rollers give thin hair an immediate boost, but they can also set hair up to fall. One solution is to build volume in the shower. "Thin hair contains less keratin, the protein that gives it structure," says Cheri McMaster, Pantene's senior scientist. "It also has less cuticle to protect it from external damage." Pantene Pro-V's new Full & Thick Shampoo removes the oil, residue, and dead cells that weigh hair down. The conditioner attaches positively charged molecules to the negatively charged hair strand, bolstering its lean cuticle. Redken Extreme Rescue Force treatment bulks up wispy strands with proteins, ceramides, and lipids, while L'Anza Magic Bullet Hair Healer, a leave-in conditioning spray, and Kerastase Forcintense conditioner claim to help replenish depleted keratin in the cortex of the hair. However, some doctors believe that the argument is a little thin. "Moisturizers seal holes in the layer around the strand," says Neil Sadick, a clinical professor of dermatology at Cornell University, "but there's no proof you can reintroduce keratin into the center of the hair." Bottom Line: The new products for thin hair gave us more volume and shine and lasted until our next shampoo.

Heaven Scent
Heaven Scent Avon's new fragrance, Goddess, is "the essence of all things beautiful," according to the press release. We took the scent to a statue of a Roman goddess of abundance in front of the Plaza Hotel in New York City and asked passersby if they felt the blend of freesia, musk, and lily of the valley was worthy of worship.
