Warm Body Unless you're naturally dark-skinned, odds are that you look like a fish belly this time of year. And you're in good company. Makeup artist Joni Powell regularly turns pale-bodied actors such as Mischa Barton and Adam Brody into topaz-tinted Californians for The O.C. "Adam is rarely shirtless, so we just warm his face up a little with bronzing powder," says Powell, "but Mischa -- who is half Irish and half English -- is pale by nature, and I like to use self-tanning products on her." Powell applies a variety of brands -- "I customize for each of the actors, because sometimes one of them will say that something is too sticky, or they don't like the smell" -- but her favorite is Jurlique OPC Tea Tree Body Exfoliating Gel, followed by Estee Lauder Go Bronze Plus (it's tinted, "so you can see what you're putting on, plus it has a bit of shimmer") or Sun Instant Self-Tanning Spray, an aerosol spray for touch-ups. For a faster hit of color on the body, Powell slathers on bronze lotion such as Benefit Flamingo Fancy or Sue Devitt Studio Liquid Gold Coast Bronzing Glow, lets it dry, and sets it with translucent powder. The powder is especially crucial for all those makeout sessions on The O.C., adds Powell. ...
