The Wraps
The new stoles, shrugs, capelets, and boleros are meant to be worn both indoors and out. Yes, they shelter cold shoulders, but they also must complement everything else you're wearing. A bolero is leaner and more tailored than most cover-ups -- lush fabrics are what keep it festive. Slip it over a fluid, slinky top made of satin or silk. Wyeth by Todd Magill velvet bolero (1), $219, at Blue Bee, Santa Barbara, CA, 805-897-1137. Some women are overwhelmed by a long fur jacket or coat; they can look like they're being devoured by Sasquatch. A cushy shrug or stole gives just a bit of glamorous bulk. J. Mendel sable-fur shrug (2), $14,500, 800-JMENDEL; Adrienne Landau fox-fur stole with silk satin ribbon (3), $595, at Saks Fifth Avenue, N.Y.C., 212-753-4000. The tidy shape of this shrug is subtly revealing, since it closes only at the collar. And layered over a satin cocktail dress, the look is more Sarah Jessica Parker than Sandra Dee. Banana Republic silk-cashmere-and-angora shrug (4), $68, 888-BRSTYLE. A loose, sequined capelet almost functions as jewelry over a bias-cut evening gown or a lower-key camisole and jeans. CK Calvin Klein beaded silk tulle capelet (5), $395, 800-294-7978.
