Long-lasting shine in three easy steps. By Catherine Piercy
Lip Gloss Long-lasting shine in three easy steps. By Catherine Piercy Men, lip gloss -- why does it always come down to commitment issues? Why must we always resort to manipulation and trickery? "The same emollient waxes and oils that give lip gloss its high shine are easily worn away by talking or drinking," says cosmetics chemist Nick Morante. Still, experts have found ways to make lip gloss stick around for more than ten minutes. Before applying the shiny stuff, makeup artist Chrisanne Davis fills in lips with a neutral-colored pencil. "Matching the liner to the natural shade of your mouth will prevent a dark and ghoulish ring from forming as the gloss wears away," Davis says. Follow with a waxy balm to create a smooth, water-resistant base beneath your gloss (a traditional rose or beeswax formula, whether it's from a pot or stick, is the right consistency). And though all lip gloss is ephemeral by nature, makeup artist Mally Roncal believes there is a way to determine a formula's longevity: "The slicker and smoother it is, the faster it will probably disappear" -- a principle that applies just as easily to men.
