5 Top Tips
dewy skin
Dewy skin Put down the Vaseline, and step away from the mirror. Tempting as it is when skin turns dry and dull, a dewy look does not come from a vat of goop. Makeup artist Diane Kendal offers a better way to do the dew. Exfoliate. Scrubs with papaya enzymes are gentle enough for sensitive skin and can be used twice a week. Apply a moisturizer -- a cream or lotion, depending on your complexion -- when skin is damp. Let it absorb for a few minutes before putting on makeup. Select a base. Tinted mois- turizer layered on top of a regular moisturizer creates "instant dewiness," Kendal says, but it can be too much for oily skin. In that case, or for more coverage, a liquid or cream foundation is best. Blend a slightly shimmery cream blush over cheeks. Kendal likes peach shades on fair and medium skin, and light pink on olive and darker tones. Dab a cream or gel eye shadow over lids to brighten the face. Brown with a metallic sheen or gold eye shadow, says Kendal, "is dramatic without looking too heavy." -- PATRICIA ALFONSO
