Serial Botox Injectors
Serial Botox Injectors getting Botox injections regularly for years appears to be safe, according to a review by the Vancouver doctors who first discovered its wrinkle-relaxing benefits. Ophthalmologist Jean Carruthers and dermatologist Alastair Carruthers reviewed the charts of 50 patients who each had 10 to 20 treatments over three to nine years. Adverse events -- primarily drooping eyelids and eyebrows -- occurred in 1 percent of the treatments. Complications were not linked with frequency of injections, and they were all resolved in the months it took the treatment to wear off. The study did not assess whether Botox might increase the risk of any systemic diseases, but Yale dermatologist Jeffrey Dover, who has conducted studies of injectable substances, comments: "Botox circulates in the body for less than five minutes before being metabolized, and its effect is localized only in the muscle where it is injected. In the right hands, Botox is remarkably safe."
