Who deserves a fashion award? By Jeffrey Slonim or armchair fashion critics, watching awards shows is a field day of snide remarks and petty put-downs. But when sizing up fellow A-listers, the stars themselves are far more generous. At the CFDA Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards, and the Conde Nast Fashion Rocks event at Radio City Music Hall, we asked who should win a fashion prize. Nepotism -- including the romantic sort -- was a strong influence. Jay-Z would "absolutely give Beyonce an award." Janice Combs nominated "my son Sean, of course." But most votes went to those who go out on a limb. Carolyn Murphy praised Kirsten Dunst for being "funky and girlie at the same time." Maggie Rizer gushed that Yoko Ono always has her "own personal style, but she's still so Yoko." Jane Adams and Jennifer Jason Leigh both picked Chloe Sevigny, who seemed to be vying for the Sally Field Award. "Really?" she demurred. "People said me?"
