Private Eye

What beauty treatments should men try? By Jeffrey Slonim

Every woman suffers in some way to be beautiful. Their flawless skin and fuzz-free bodies are usually achieved with a bit of discomfort. And many of them wouldn't mind if men could feel their pain -- firsthand. At the Vanity Fair Oscar party, the Tony Awards, and the premieres of Catwoman and HBO's Entourage, we asked women which beauty treatments men should have to endure. Carolyn Murphy is merciless when she plays aesthetician to her boyfriend, Brandon Boyd, lead singer of Incubus. "I give him facials," she said. "When I get to the third squeeze on his nose, he says, 'I can't take it anymore.'" If Helen Mirren had her way, the opposite sex would "be wearing full makeup and have stylists -- the whole caboodle." Tina Fey would put metal spikes in men's shoes "so they know what it's like to wear high heels." But all of this sounds like a minor inconvenience next to Lara Flynn Boyle's prescription: "One word: waxing."
