Soft Feet
Three easy steps to smooth, supple soles.
Forget May flowers. Manicurist Ji Baek knows it's spring when dry, neglected feet come out of Uggs hibernation and into her Rescue Beauty Lounges in New York City. "Women get frantic right now," she says. "They think, It's time to wear open-toe sandals, and I'm too embarrassed to even try them on." Of course, preparing feet for public viewing requires more than a slap of pink polish. A ten-minute soak once a week is usually sufficient to loosen calluses for removal and increase the skin's absorption of moisturizers, according to New York City dermatologist and nail specialist Richard K. Scher. And, armed with the right tools (a large bowl and an AHA-rich cleanser, for starters), it's easy to do the dirty work at home usually in under 40 minutes. To prevent rough skin from growing back, Julie Serquinia, owner of Paint Shop in Beverly Hills, sends all clients home with a foot file to keep near the shower. "Filing in the morning and putting on lotion every night should be as natural as washing your face," she says.
