Who? Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. What? The May cover of Allure. Where? At Smashbox Studios, in their hometown, Los Angeles. When? January 29, just two weeks before they left for France and Germany to introduce their new clothing line for girls. Why? The actresses make their big-screen film debut in New York Minute this month -- a comedy about two sisters embroiled in a series of misadventures. Jean Pool: The Olsens were ten minutes early for the 8 a.m. shoot, both wearing Levi's jeans. Mary-Kate paired hers with an NYU sweatshirt and beaded, embroidered Moroccan slippers. Ashley also wore a sweatshirt, with orange Jil Sander ballerina flats. New York, New York: The sisters spoke with the crew about their upcoming freshman year at New York University. "We're ready for a change," Mary-Kate said about the cross-country leap. Double Espressos: Still groggy from a late night of studying, both girls requested skim lattes from the Smashbox espresso bar. They added three packets of Equal, took a few sips, and perked up. Dancing Queens: The Olsens danced to the Bee Gees, ABBA, and Blondie cranked high. "We love '70s rock," explained Ashley. Lunch Break: Before pausing to tape an interview with Entertainment Tonight, they ate enchiladas, rice and beans, and plantain salad for lunch. Labels for Less: When asked what they were wearing on the shoot by the ET interviewer, Mary-Kate answered, "Steve McQueen."
