Under Their Skin Thank you for bringing up an issue that I have never read about in any other magazine. I know exactly what Strawberry Saroyan ["A Distorted Mirror," March] is talking about. I am a recent college graduate and have been dealing with the same dilemmas of body dysmorphia, along with the resulting embarrassment and alienation. My day begins and ends with tweezing. I always knew my obsession with my skin didn't exist just because I suffered from acne throughout high school. But I'll never forget walking to school one morning while a group of boys behind me laughed and said that I looked good from the back -- until I turned around. I ran home sobbing. I would like nothing more than to forget about my fixation with my skin. I try so hard to pretend that I am confident, but my behavior has had a negative effect on my relationships.
