Sexy on The Beach
Easy Ocean Hair
Come beach season, it's time to cut the flatiron and dryer cords. But that's tough when "natural" conjures all sorts of negative connotations: Curly hair frizzes, fine hair wilts, and waves become wishy-washy. The good news? Saltwater and ocean breezes are happy to pick up the slack. BAN THE BLOW-DRYER Blown-out hair looks stiff and falls flat in humidity. Instead, smooth an anti-frizz serum on damp hair, and let it air-dry, says hairstylist Roy Teeluck of the Roy Teeluck Salon in New York City. Finish it off by clipping a flower hairpin behind one ear, adds hairstylist Jimmy Paul. "It will give hair a little lift." JUST ADD WATER Keep bottled water on hand to smooth frizz, says River Lloyd of the Peter Coppola Salon in New York City. "After a swim, I run my hands through my hair, let it dry naturally, and I get great, wild curls," says Shoshanna Lonstein-Gruss. If you're not a swimmer, bring an empty spray bottle, fill it with saltwater, and spritz for a boost, says Teeluck. PONY UP...but never venture higher than the ears. "A ponytail right on top of the head is too Malibu Barbie," Teeluck says. "And it looks odd when it's taken down." You can tie your hair at the nape of the neck or twist and knot it at the back of your head (roughly an inch higher than the tops of the ears). That latter is like an instant face-lift, says Maria Mancuso-Gersh. Let some of the ends stick out of the bun. "And if you've got a layered cut, leave out a few face-framing pieces," Paul says. "Dab a dime-size blob of alcohol-free serum in your hands, and twirl the strands around your finger to keep them from fuzzing up." BRAIDS OF GLORY "I always braid my hair on the beach," says Estee Lauder model Liya Kebede. Paul likes to twist the braid into a neat bun. SEAL THE DEAL You went into the water as a woman -- ...
