Curling irons can be intimidating (after all, they can get as hot as a blacksmith's tongs and look like the sex toy from hell). We offer operation instructions: * To avoid sausage ringlets, use an iron with a relatively large barrel. Orlando Pita recommends one that's at least an inch and a half around for everyone except those with fine hair (then one inch is best). * If hair is layered around the face, Harry Josh suggests wrapping all the uneven ends in a square of toilet paper, then curling. (The paper will hold the hair neatly and allow the iron to do its job without wisps and straggles sticking out.) * Curling the ends is optional for women with any natural wave. For a relaxed look, don't curl the ends. Some runway hairstylists simply spritz the models' waves with water, hand-scrunch them, and blow them dry. * Normally it takes about ten seconds to get a curl.
