There are different curls for different girls. "You have to experiment," says Jimmy Paul. "If you have hard-to-hold hair, Velcro rollers might be better than an iron, and if Velcro rollers don't do enough, you might have to go to hot rollers or pin curls." Products vary, too, but remember: Light is right. NATURALLY WAVY HAIR: The ideal is to wash hair the night before, says Orlando Pita; letting it dry naturally and then sleeping on it launches waves and settles frizz. If you need some lift at the roots the next morning, dab on a volumizer (Pita likes L'Oreal Professional Volume Lift Mousse) or a product designed to enhance wavy hair, like Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious. "Then take random chunks of hair near the face, and wrap them around the iron to create different kinds of waves," Pita suggests. FINE, STRAIGHT HAIR: Start with a volumizing foam mousse, says Harry Josh of the Serge Normant for John Frieda Salon in New York City. (He likes Suave Professionals.) Blow-dry hair upside down using a vent brush, suggests Paul; a Mason Pearson type makes fine hair too fluffy. Then make waves with Velcro or, if necessary, hot rollers -- try a small size ...
