Aug. 13--AUGUSTA -- Plum Creek Timber Co. officials defended their Moosehead Lake proposal Friday, saying it's consistent with the state's goal of drawing tourists away from the coast to visit the lakes and mountains.

Company officials met with members of the Kennebec Journal editorial board to answer questions about their plan to rezone 426,000 acres of land the company owns near the towns of Greenville, Rockwood and Jackman.
