Jul. 26--OCALA,Fla. -- Retailers around the region experienced increased business this past weekend as the nine-day sales tax holiday got under way on Saturday. And while many anticipate steady traffic at cash registers throughout the week, retailers expect tax-free shopping to peak during the final weekend as local consumers prepare for the Aug. 8 start of the new school year.
Shoppers at the Kmart in the Belleview Regional Shopping Center were able to pick up supply lists from area schools to help take advantage of the savings. Store manager Dan Clement said Saturday traffic was busier than normal.
