Larry Beinfest will never be confused with Winston Churchill.
Yet the Marlins' general manager was at his best during one particular media gathering a little over two years ago. The date was July 1, 2003.
Oh, Beinfest wasn't all that witty or inspirational. He didn't drop any of his Berkeley words on us that day, didn't talk about "ramping up" or "engaging the marketplace."
Rather, his message was one of tuning in, turning off and dropping out ... at least when it came to Mike Lowell.
